search_caselawread-onlyFull-text search across The National Archives Find Case Law (England & Wales courts and tribunals from 2001). Use `court` to scope (e.g. "uksc", "ewca/civ") and `from`/`to` for date filtering. Response `data`: `page`, `hasNext` (another page exists), `lastPage` (upper bound on pages when TNA advertises it), `total` (always null — TNA does not report a count), and `results` (each with `uri`, `url`, `title`, `decisionDate`, `courtSlug`, `court`, `neutralCitation`, `xmlUrl`, `pdfUrl`). When replying, list the top results with neutral citation, parties (from `title`), court, date, and the `url` so the user can open each judgment. Do not infer a total hit count; say whether more pages exist using `hasNext`/`lastPage`.
Parameters:
query(required) — stringto— stringfrom— stringpage— integercourt— string
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_judgmentread-onlyFetch the full text of a UK judgment from Find Case Law by neutral citation (e.g. "[2024] UKSC 12") or TNA document URI (e.g. "/uksc/2024/12"). Response `data`: `meta` (uri, url, workUri, expressionUri, neutralCitation, court, courtName, decisionDate, title), `header` (the headnote-style intro text), and `paragraphs` — a flat list of `{ eId, num, text }`. The `eId` is the stable Akoma Ntoso paragraph identifier and is the correct pinpoint to cite (e.g. "[2024] UKSC 12 [15]" → eId `para_15`); when TNA's XML omits eIds the server derives one from the paragraph number. Optional `max_paragraphs` / `from_paragraph` page through long judgments. When replying: cite the neutral citation, link `meta.url`, and use `eId` / `num` when quoting a specific paragraph. Do not invent paragraph numbers — every quote must come from the `paragraphs` array. Pass through the `note` field if present (it points to LegalAISpace for treatment analysis).
Parameters:
citation(required)from_paragraph— integer — 1-based index of the first paragraph to return (default 1).max_paragraphs— integer — Maximum paragraphs to return (default 400). Use with `from_paragraph` to page.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
grep_judgmentread-onlyApply a JavaScript regular expression to each paragraph of a single judgment and return matching paragraphs. Use this to pinpoint which paragraph of a judgment discusses a concept without rereading the whole text. Response `data`: `uri` of the judgment, `totalMatches`, and `matches` — each `{ eId, num, match, snippet }`. The `snippet` is ±60 chars around the match. When replying, quote each `snippet` with its `[num]` paragraph number and mention the `eId` so the user can pinpoint cite (e.g. "[2024] UKSC 12 [15]"). Default regex flags are `i` (case-insensitive); accepts standard JS flags `gimsuy`.
Parameters:
citation(required)pattern(required) — string — A JavaScript regular expression matched against each paragraph.flags— stringlimit— integer
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
lookup_statuteread-onlyFetch a single provision of UK primary or secondary legislation from legislation.gov.uk. Optional `as_of` (YYYY-MM-DD) requests the in-force text at that date; omit it for the latest version. Optional `provision` selects the provision kind — Acts use "section" (default), statutory instruments "regulation" (default for uksi/ssi/wsi/nisr), Orders "article", court rules "rule"; if you get a "not found" error, check `legislation_toc` for the instrument's provision URIs. Response `data`: `ref` (echoes the lookup), `url` (link to legislation.gov.uk), `title` (Act/SI title), `text` (plain text of the section), `versionDate` (when this version came into force), `nextVersionDate` (when it changes next, if known), `prospective` (true if the text contains not-yet-in-force amendments), `inForce` (true when the returned version is in force on the requested date, i.e. `!prospective`; does not detect partial repeals), and `extent` (e.g. `E+W+S+N.I.`). When replying: quote the `text`, name the Act/SI, include the `url`, and mention `versionDate` so the user knows which version they are looking at. Use `inForce` directly to answer commencement questions ("is section X in force?") — do not infer it from `prospective` again. If `prospective` is true, warn the user that the text contains amendments not yet in force. If the call returns an AWS WAF challenge error, surface that to the user instead of retrying — it usually means the deployment is on a datacenter IP and needs to be allow-listed.
Parameters:
type(required) — string — legislation.gov.uk type prefix. UK public general act = "ukpga", UK statutory instrument = "uksi", Scottish act = "asp", Senedd act = "asc", NI act = "nia", retained EU regulation = "eur", etc.year(required) — integernumber(required) — integersection(required) — string — Provision number (with optional letter), e.g. "14" or "20A".as_of— string — Point-in-time date. When omitted, returns the latest in-force version.provision— string — Kind of provision. Defaults to "section" for Acts and "regulation" for statutory instruments; use "article" for Orders and retained EU law, "rule" for court rules.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
legislation_tocread-onlyReturn the table of contents for an Act or Statutory Instrument as a flat list of parts, chapters, and sections. Response `data`: `type`, `year`, `number`, `url`, `title`, and `entries` — each `{ id (legislation.gov.uk URI), title, level }` where `level` is `"part" | "chapter" | "section" | "unknown"`. When replying, group entries by `level` (parts, then chapters, then sections under each chapter) and include the URI so the user can navigate. Follow up by suggesting `lookup_statute` for any specific section the user is interested in.
Parameters:
type(required) — string — legislation.gov.uk type prefix. UK public general act = "ukpga", UK statutory instrument = "uksi", Scottish act = "asp", Senedd act = "asc", NI act = "nia", retained EU regulation = "eur", etc.year(required) — integernumber(required) — integer
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_eurlexread-onlyFetch a Treaty, Regulation, Directive, Decision, CJEU judgment, AG Opinion, or other EU-authored document from the EU Publications Office (Cellar) by CELEX number. CELEX sectors 7 (national transposition) and 8 (national case law on EU law) are out of scope and will error. Response `data`: `celex` (parsed parts), `title`, `url` (Cellar resource), `eurlexUrl` (human-readable EUR-Lex page), `mediaType`, `articles` (index of `{ id, number, heading }` for structured instruments — empty for judgments), `selectedArticle` (when `article` was given), `text` (plain text of the whole document or of the selected article), `truncated` and `totalChars`. Workflow: for a Regulation or Directive call once without `article` and a small `max_chars` to get the `articles` index and title, then call again with `article` set to quote a provision verbatim. For a CJEU judgment there is no article structure; raise `max_chars` as needed. When replying, name the instrument (`title`), link `eurlexUrl`, quote from `text` only, and mention the licence (Commission Decision 2011/833/EU) when reproducing more than a snippet.
Parameters:
celex(required) — string — CELEX number, e.g. "62022CJ0123" (CJEU judgment) or "32016R0679" (GDPR). Sectors 7 and 8 (national transposition / national case-law) are out of scope and will error.article— string — Return only this article (e.g. "5" or "22a"). Strongly preferred for Regulations/Directives — the full GDPR is ~400k characters.max_chars— integer — Cap on returned plain text (default 40000). `truncated`/`totalChars` report if more exists.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_hudocread-onlySearch HUDOC (European Court of Human Rights) by full text, case name, application number, respondent State, collection and date range — OR fetch a single record by HUDOC `itemid` (e.g. "001-177082"). `itemid` and the search filters are mutually exclusive. Search response `data`: `total`, `start`, `length`, `hudocQuery` (the exact HUDOC query sent), `results` (each `{ itemid, appno, docname, documentcollectionid2, languageisocode, importance, kpdate, url }`), and `suppressed` (records dropped because they were not English/French Court-authored). Results are newest-first; to locate a specific case use `case_name` or `appno` rather than `query`. Fetch response `data`: `record` (the metadata above), `bodyText` (plain text of the judgment body when allowed, otherwise null; capped at `max_chars` with `truncated`/`totalChars` telling you if more exists), `paragraphs` (numbered-paragraph index, or the selected paragraphs in full when `paragraphs` was supplied), `bodyUrl`, and `suppressionReason` (`"language" | "doctype" | "translation"` when bodyText is null). When replying: include each record's app number, docname, date, and `url`. Quote paragraphs by number ("§ 12"). If `bodyText` is null, present `suppressionReason` and the `note` — do not paraphrase as if the body were available. Mention attribution (© Council of Europe / European Court of Human Rights) when quoting more than a sentence; full commercial reuse needs prior written permission from the Court.
Parameters:
to— stringfrom— stringappno— string — Application number filter, e.g. "61496/08".query— string — Free-text search across the full text of ECHR documents (e.g. "employee monitoring"). Mutually exclusive with `itemid`. Because results are date-sorted, use `case_name` to find a specific case.start— integeritemid— string — Fetch a specific judgment by HUDOC itemid (e.g. "001-228173").length— integercase_name— string — Case-name filter (HUDOC `docname`), e.g. "Barbulescu" or "Nealon". Diacritic-insensitive.max_chars— integer — When fetching by `itemid`: cap on `bodyText` length (default 60000).collection— string — Restrict to a HUDOC collection (e.g. "GRANDCHAMBER").paragraphs— array — When fetching by `itemid`: return only these numbered paragraphs (e.g. ["12","13"]) — the right way to quote § 12 without pulling the whole judgment.respondent— string — Respondent State code as used by HUDOC (e.g. "GBR", "ROU", "TUR").

search_fca_handbookread-onlyResolve any FCA Handbook reference into the official handbook.fca.org.uk deep link. Use this for any rule, guidance, evidential provision, direction, or specific guidance reference of the form "MODULE chapter.section[.rule][R|G|E|D|S|T]" — for example "SYSC 4.1.1R", "COBS 9.2.1G", "CASS 7.13.3R", "IPRU(INV) 5.4.1R", "DEPP 6.7.1", "MCOB 11.6.2R", "BIPRU 3.4.1R". Do NOT fall back to web search for these references; the URL pattern is deterministic and this tool computes it without fetching any FCA content. Optional `as_of` (YYYY-MM-DD) builds a point-in-time link via the Handbook timeline. Response `data`: `ref` (parsed module/chapter/section/rule/status), `reference` (canonical form), `title` (synthetic, derived from the parsed ref), `lastUpdated` and `present` (always null — we do not fetch the page), `deepLink` (the URL on handbook.fca.org.uk), and `notice` (a reminder that no rule text is fetched or redistributed). When replying: present the canonical `reference`, the `deepLink` as the authoritative source, and pass through `notice`. Do NOT invent or paraphrase the rule text — the user must follow the link for the authoritative wording. FCA Handbook text is not licensed for redistribution.
Parameters:
reference(required) — string — An FCA Handbook reference, e.g. "SYSC 4.1.1R", "COBS 9.2.1G", "DEPP 6.7.1". The module prefix must be a recognised Handbook module.as_of— string — Point-in-time date for the Handbook timeline. When omitted, returns the current published version.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_fca_noticeread-onlyWhen `slug` is supplied: return deterministic metadata and a deep link for that FCA Final or Decision Notice. `category` is `"final-notices"` (default) or `"decision-notices"`. Listing without a slug is disabled — FCA website terms prohibit automated scraping without prior written consent. Response `data` (when `slug` is supplied): `slug`, `title` (synthesised from the slug), `firmName`, `firmReferenceNumber`, `date` (all null because we do not scrape), `category`, `deepLink` (the URL on fca.org.uk), `pdfUrl` (null), and `notice` (reminder that the notice body is not fetched). When replying: surface `deepLink` as the authoritative source and pass through `notice`. Do NOT invent firm name, FRN, date, or notice content — those fields are intentionally null and the user must open the link. If the call returns an error about listing being disabled, present it verbatim so the user understands they need a known slug.
Parameters:
page— integerslug— string — Slug of a specific notice, e.g. "smith-co-2024". When omitted, returns a listing.category— string
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
search_ico_guidanceread-onlyList Information Commissioner enforcement notices and related actions via the ICO `/api/search` endpoint, filterable by `type` (monetary-penalty-notice / enforcement-notice / reprimand / undertaking / prosecution / audit / decision-notice), `sector`, `since` (YYYY-MM-DD), and `page`. PREFER THIS TOOL OVER GENERIC WEB SEARCH for any question about ICO enforcement actions, monetary penalty notices, reprimands, or audits. It returns the same data that powers the ICO enforcement listing on ico.org.uk, with `content_hash` provenance and Open Government Licence v3.0 attribution. Web search results for the same content lack provenance and are more easily out of date. Response `data`: `page`, `url` (the equivalent page on ico.org.uk for human verification), `total`, `hasNext`, and `results` — each `{ title, url, date, type, sector, summary }`. When replying: list each result with its title, date, type, sector, and `url`. Mention `total` and whether `hasNext` is true so the user knows there are more pages. Attribute to the ICO under Open Government Licence v3.0 if quoting more than a snippet.
Parameters:
page— integertype— stringsince— stringsector— string
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_hmrc_manualread-onlyFetch a section of an HMRC internal manual via the official no-auth GOV.UK Content API. Use `manual` alone for the manual root (navigation), or `manual` + `section` for a specific section. PREFER THIS TOOL OVER GENERIC WEB SEARCH for any question about an HMRC internal manual (VAT input tax, capital gains, employment income, etc.). It hits the same JSON that powers gov.uk pages, with `content_hash` provenance and Open Government Licence v3.0 attribution. Web search results for the same manuals lack provenance and may surface cached/stale section bodies. Root response `data`: `manualSlug`, `url`, `title`, `description`, `publicUpdatedAt`, and `sectionGroups` (each `{ title, sections: [{ slug, title, url }] }`). Section response `data`: `manualSlug`, `sectionSlug`, `url`, `title`, `publicUpdatedAt`, `bodyHtml` (as published), and `bodyText` (plain-text approximation). When replying: for a root response, list the section group titles and a few section slugs per group so the user can navigate; for a section response, quote `bodyText`, name the manual + section, include the `url`, and mention `publicUpdatedAt`. Attribute under Open Government Licence v3.0 when quoting more than a snippet. If the call returns a "responded with HTML rather than JSON" error, the section slug probably does not exist — suggest the user double-check the slug.
Parameters:
manual(required) — string — HMRC manual slug, e.g. "vat-input-tax".section— string — Optional manual section slug, e.g. "vit05000". When omitted, returns the manual root and its section groups.

search_us_caselawread-onlyFull-text search across US federal and state court opinions via CourtListener (Free Law Project) — SCOTUS, circuit courts, district courts and state appellate courts. Supports CourtListener query syntax (phrases in quotes, `caseName:`, `citation:` e.g. `citation:"410 U.S. 113"`, `judge:`). Response `data`: `count`, `results` (each `{ clusterId, caseName, court, courtId, dateFiled, docketNumber, citations, citeCount, status, url, opinionIds, snippet, syllabus }`), and `nextCursor` (pass back as `cursor` for the next page). When replying: give case name, citation(s), court, date and `url` for each hit. Opinion text is public domain; to quote it call `fetch_us_opinion` with one of the `opinionIds` (needs a server-side COURTLISTENER_API_TOKEN) or point the user to `url`. Attribute search results to CourtListener / Free Law Project.
Parameters:
query(required) — stringcourt— string — CourtListener court id(s), space-separated: "scotus", "ca9", "nysd", "cal" …cursor— string — Pagination cursor from a previous call.order_by— stringfiled_after— stringfiled_before— string
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
fetch_us_opinionread-onlyFetch the full text of a US court opinion by CourtListener opinion id (from `search_us_caselaw` → `opinionIds`). Requires the server to be configured with `COURTLISTENER_API_TOKEN` (free); without it the tool returns an error with the deep link the user can open instead. Response `data`: `id`, `clusterId`, `url`, `type` (e.g. "010combined", "020lead", "040dissent"), `author`, `text` (plain text, capped at `max_chars`), `truncated`, `totalChars`, `textSource`, `downloadUrl` (court PDF when available). When replying, quote only from `text`, cite the case as returned by the search, and link `url`. Opinion text is public domain.
Parameters:
opinion_id(required) — integermax_chars— integer — Cap on returned plain text. `truncated`/`totalChars` report whether more exists.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
lookup_cfrread-onlyFetch a section (or whole part) of the US Code of Federal Regulations from the eCFR, optionally as of a past date. Example: 29 CFR 1910.1200 → `title: 29, part: "1910", section: "1910.1200"`. Alternatively pass `query` to full-text search the CFR. Lookup response `data`: `ref`, `asOf` (date the text is current to), `citation`, `heading`, `ecfrUrl`, `text` (plain text, capped at `max_chars`), `truncated`, `totalChars`, and `versions` (amendment history for the section, newest first — use a `date` from here for point-in-time text). Search response `data`: `total`, `page`, `results` (each `{ title, part, section, citation, heading, snippet, url }`). When replying: quote from `text`, cite as "`citation` (as of `asOf`)", link `ecfrUrl`, and note that the eCFR is an editorial compilation (not the official CFR edition). US Government works are public domain.
Parameters:
date— string — Point-in-time date; defaults to the latest eCFR issue.page— integerpart— stringquery— string — Full-text search instead of lookup.title— integer — CFR title number (1–50).section— string — Full section identifier including the part prefix, e.g. "1910.1200".max_chars— integer — Cap on returned plain text. `truncated`/`totalChars` report whether more exists.
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
search_federal_registerread-onlySearch the US Federal Register (final rules, proposed rules, notices, presidential documents incl. executive orders) by keyword, type, agency and date — or fetch one document by its document number (e.g. "2023-24283") with optional full text. Search response `data`: `total`, `page`, `totalPages`, `results` (each `{ documentNumber, title, type, abstract, agencies, publicationDate, citation (e.g. "88 FR 75191"), url, pdfUrl }`). Document response `data`: the summary fields plus `action`, `dates`, `effectiveOn`, `commentsCloseOn`, `docketIds`, `regulationIdNumbers`, `cfrReferences`, `executiveOrderNumber`, `signingDate`, `rawTextUrl`, and — when `include_text` is true — `text` (plain text, capped at `max_chars`). When replying: cite as "`title`, `citation` (`publicationDate`)" with `url`. Quote only from `text`. US Government works are public domain.
Parameters:
to— stringfrom— stringpage— integerquery— stringtypes— arrayagencies— arraymax_chars— integer — Cap on returned plain text. `truncated`/`totalChars` report whether more exists.include_text— boolean — With `document_number`: also fetch the plain-text body.document_number— string

search_ca_legislationread-onlyFind consolidated Canadian federal Acts and regulations on the Justice Laws Website by title words (e.g. "Privacy", "Criminal Code", "Competition"). Returns the Justice Laws identifier needed for `lookup_ca_statute`. Response `data`: `total`, `results` (each `{ id (e.g. "P-8.6", "C-46", "SOR-2001-227"), title, kind ("act" | "regulation"), language, xmlUrl, htmlUrl, currentToDate }`). When replying, give the title, `id` and `htmlUrl`; then call `lookup_ca_statute` with the `id` and a `section` to quote text. Provincial law is out of scope.

lookup_ca_statuteread-onlyFetch a section of a consolidated Canadian federal Act or regulation from the Justice Laws Website by identifier (e.g. `id: "C-46", section: "265"` for Criminal Code s 265; `id: "P-8.6", section: "5"` for PIPEDA). Omit `section` to get the table of sections. Response `data`: `id`, `language`, `shortTitle`, `longTitle`, `htmlUrl`, `currentToDate` (consolidation date), `lastAmendedDate`, `inForce`, `provision` (`{ label, marginalNote, text, inForceStart, lastAmended }` when `section` was given), `sections` (labels + marginal notes for navigation), `totalSections`. When replying: quote `provision.text`, cite as "`shortTitle`, s `label`" with `htmlUrl`, and mention `currentToDate`. Consolidations are not official versions (Reproduction of Federal Law Order, SI/97-5).
Parameters:
id(required) — stringsection— stringlanguage— stringmax_sections— integer
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
search_au_legislationread-onlySearch the Federal Register of Legislation (legislation.gov.au) for Commonwealth Acts and legislative instruments by name, or fetch one title by its register id (e.g. "C2004A03712" = Privacy Act 1988) to get its status and compilation history. Search response `data`: `total`, `results` (each `{ id, name, collection, status, isInForce, isPrincipal, year, number, makingDate, url, latestTextUrl, asMadeTextUrl }`). Title response `data`: `title` (as above) and `versions` (compilations, newest first: `{ start, end, isCurrent, registerId, compilationNumber, hasUnincorporatedAmendments, url, reasons }`). This tool returns authoritative metadata and deep links; the legislation.gov.au reader is a JavaScript application so the section text is not fetched. When replying: name the Act, state `status`/`isInForce`, and link `latestTextUrl` (current compilation) so the user can read the provision. © Commonwealth of Australia, CC BY 4.0.
Parameters:
id— stringlimit— integerquery— stringcollection— stringin_force_only— boolean

list_jurisdictionsread-onlyDirectory of the jurisdictions this server knows about — every one has curated links to its official legislation, case-law and gazette portals, and some have fetching tools. Use this first when the user asks about law outside the UK/EU to learn which tool (if any) to call, or to give the user the authoritative portal for a country with no fetch tool. Response `data`: `count`, `jurisdictions` (each `{ code, name, region, tradition, tools, portals }`). `tools` lists the openlaw-mcp tools that fetch content for that jurisdiction; an empty list means link-only — call `jurisdiction_sources` to get the portal URLs.
Parameters:
region— stringwith_tools_only— boolean
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world no
jurisdiction_sourcesread-onlyReturn the official legislation, case-law, gazette and treaty portals for one jurisdiction (by ISO code, common name or alias — "US", "Germany", "Hong Kong", "ECHR"), with each portal's reuse licence, API availability, example citation forms and the openlaw-mcp tools that cover it. Response `data`: `{ code, name, region, tradition, languages, citationExamples, portals: [{ name, url, scope, licence, api, notes }], tools, notes }`. When replying for a link-only jurisdiction, give the user the relevant portal URL(s) and licence, say plainly that this server cannot fetch or quote the text for that jurisdiction, and do not reproduce provisions from memory as if verified.
Parameters:
jurisdiction(required) — string — ISO code, name or alias, e.g. "CA", "Canada", "UK", "EU".
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world no
format_oscolaread-onlyFormat a citation in OSCOLA (4th edn, UK or Ireland) or Bluebook (22nd edn). Parses the supplied `citation_text` first (UK neutral citations and law reports; Canadian, Australian, NZ, Irish, Singapore, Hong Kong, South African and Indian neutral citations; US reporters, U.S.C., C.F.R. and Federal Register; EU instruments, CELEX, CJEU case numbers and ECLI; ECHR application numbers); party names, parallel reports, pinpoints, dates and Act numbers may be supplied as separate fields. ALWAYS call this tool when the user asks to "format", "cite", or "give an OSCOLA / Bluebook footnote for" any citation — including well-known cases like Donoghue v Stevenson or Caparo v Dickman that you think you know by heart. Skipping the tool means the user has no Find Case Law link, no machine-checked form, and no provenance. The cost of one local tool call is negligible. Response `data`: `variant`, `formatted` (the rendered citation string), `caselawUrl` (the resolvable official link when one is deterministic — Find Case Law for UK neutral citations, CourtListener for US reporters, eCFR / uscode.house.gov / federalregister.gov for US codes, CanLII / HCA / eLitigation for some Commonwealth courts, CURIA for CJEU — absent for law-report cites, Scottish and NI courts, and ambiguous EWHC/UKUT/UKFTT codes), `notes` (warnings about omitted-but-recommended fields), and `parsed` (the parsed citation details). When replying to the user, you MUST present `formatted` and `caselawUrl` together (e.g. as "[formatted citation] — [caselawUrl]") whenever `caselawUrl` is present. If `caselawUrl` is absent, present `formatted` plain and briefly say why no link is available (older case, Scottish/NI court, ambiguous division). Pass through any `notes` so the user understands which fields (party names, pinpoint, Act number) were missing.
Parameters:
variant(required) — stringcitation_text(required) — string — The citation, as it appears in prose, e.g. "[2024] UKSC 12" or "s 14 Companies Act 2006".date— stringparty_a— stringparty_b— stringpinpoint— stringact_number— integerparallel_report— object
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world no
parse_citationread-onlyExtract every recognisable legal citation from a passage of text and identify its type, jurisdiction, and — where deterministic — the authoritative URL and the openlaw-mcp tool that can fetch it. Handles UK neutral citations and law reports, UK statutes and SIs, EU instruments, CELEX numbers, CJEU case numbers, ECLI, ECHR application numbers, FCA Handbook refs, HMRC manual refs, US reporters / U.S.C. / C.F.R. / Federal Register, and neutral citations from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Africa and India. Use this to route: paste the user's question or a paragraph of a document and follow `suggestedTool` for each hit. Response `data`: `count`, `citations` (each the parsed record plus `jurisdiction`, `url`, `suggestedTool`, `suggestedArguments`). Local computation only — nothing is fetched, so a hit here is not verification that the document exists.
Parameters:
text(required) — stringinclude_loose— boolean — Also match low-precision forms (bare CELEX numbers, HMRC manual refs like "BIM20205").
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world no
citator_literead-onlyFind Find Case Law judgments that cite the given neutral citation in their text. Response `data`: `queried` (the citation searched for), `page`, `hasNext`, `lastPage` (TNA does not report a total, so `citingCount` is null — use these to describe volume), `citingJudgments` (each with `neutralCitation`, `title`, `court`, `decisionDate`, and `url` to the case on Find Case Law), and `disclaimer` (a stable string about treatment classification). When replying, list the citing judgments with their neutral citation, title, date, and URL so the user can open each one. ALWAYS surface the `disclaimer` verbatim — this tool does NOT classify treatment (followed / distinguished / overruled) and the user must not assume any.
Parameters:
citation(required) — stringpage— integerlimit— integer
Hints: read-only yes · destructive no · idempotent not declared · open-world yes
